Learning Objectives

• Discover the benefits of technology as an art medium
• Through this course, I would like to learn how to use different types of technology as art materials and learn about artists that utilize these materials.  With this new knowledge, I would also like to have an understanding of why certain artists choose to use new media techniques instead of traditional medium.  What are the benefits of using technology vs. painting/sculpture/etc. and what are the benefits of combining materials?
• Learn to combine different art materials in interesting ways
• I am not an experienced artist, but in my art making experiences I have usually used only one technique or material in each project.  In this course, I want to experiment with using multiple techniques, especially technology combined with traditional materials, in my projects.

As a 3-credit student in this class, I will be taking on extra research work and an extra project.  Whenever the class is assigned to research an artist, I will research two artists and their work.  I will also complete a large project examining the differences between hand embroidery and machine embroidery that I will report on periodically.
